Best time to take plaquenil before or after eating

Doctors tell us to take pills before or after eating and at what intervals but rarely will they specify what time to take them. If pressed they encourage us to link taking drugs to a daily routine such as cleaning our teeth.

Take it on a regular schedule, meaning at the same time each day. Take Plaquenil EXACTLY as prescribed by your physician. Do not stop taking the medication without first speaking to your doctor. Taking Hydroxychloroquine with food and/or milk can help prevent stomach upset. Oct 06, 2007 I didn't even eat this morning and didn't have a problem. BTW I talked to two pharmacists and both said that it's okay to take with the plaquenil. I wonder if this is a personal opinion about taking it earlier than the plaquenil or maybe something we need to check into more. I actually take all 400 mg in the morning after eating breakfast because after my stomach adjusted, I have tolerated the Plaquenil very well. My rheumy doesn't think there's a problem with taking it all at once as long as I'm tolerating it since there is such a long half-life, it shouldn't affect the drug itself.

Yet the severity of our symptoms and how our bodies absorb drugs fluctuate over 24 hours.“Indeed many drugs labelled ‘take one a day’ often work better at night,” says Michael Smolenksy, one of the world’s foremost authorities on chronotherapeutics. This is understandable since they want us to remember to take our treatments consistently.

Allergic to all NSAID's and Ultram. I had it the first time I took it, rather urgently. I find it is better if I take it a few hours after eating. The first time I took it before eating - big mistake. I take 400mg 2x200mg once per day and I don't split the dose. I take it at about pm. I have more frequent bowel movements than before, but the diarrhea has stopped. The usual starting dose of Plaquenil is 200 mg twice a day or 400 mg once a day, administered orally, in people weighing 80 kg or more. The usual dosage works for most people who take Plaquenil, but it is possible to increase or decrease the dose based on individual needs. It's important to watch for possible side effects and toxicity.
