    Does plaquenil cause leg pain

It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, which transmit the parasites that cause the infection, usually in tropical and subtropical parts of the world.

Plaquenil is primarily used to help with some of the symptoms of Sjogren's.reduce fatigue, and joint pain. It is also thought it help slow progression but not well documented for this. It is not expected to halt the disease process and reverse your SFN. Sorry for the delayed response; it took a while to find my old records. My muscle pain in legs; mostly thighs started suddenly about 1 1/2 years into my SFN journey. I also had elevated CK indicative of muscle damage, and EMG showed chronic nerve damage. I started on plaquenil 3 months after that, and I took it for 3 1/2 years. Jun 25, 2013 Hi, although Plaquenil is prescribed for autoimmune diseases, such as yours, it can actually add to/increase the number of the symptoms. Muscle damage and leg pain being just 2 examples. It is great that you have responded so well to the new medication.

For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too.

Apr 28, 2009 This is a new question concerning an old post. Plaquenil and muscle pain. I thought that maybe my question had been answered when I read that Plaquenil was responsible for your muscle pain but, as I read on I realize it was not. I TOO have severe muscle pain and cramping in my legs. Only when trying to sleep. I have been on Plaquenil for years. It has not helped me with fatigue. Things like vitamins and exercise might assist with decreasing the fatigue level. I have been on 2 Dmards and a biologic for the longest time. I also take Tramadol for pain and now Indomethicin has been added to the mix to help with stiffness. Plaquenil has been a life-saving drug for me, quite literally. I was a mess in 2004-2005 and then a dr put me on Plaquenil, and in 3 weeks most of my symptoms had disappeared. Within 2 months they were all completely gone, though my bloodwork continued to show very high levels of autoimmune stuff.

You can stop both meds abruptly if that is what you want - there is no need to wean . It is likely you will experience some form of pain and weaning at least your nabumetone may help to deal with this.
